2 months salary?

I heard an interesting thing today. I've always heard that a man should spend around 2 months salary on a wedding/engagement ring. Well, it turns out that this is only 1 months salary in the UK. And it is 3 months salary in Japan. Hmmm.... This couldn't have anything to do with marketing, could it?
